The most recent Goodreads giveaway was a paperback ARC I read. It was a contemporary romance called Mistletoe on Main Street, which was written by Olivia Miles. Here is my extended review.

This is a contemporary romance that gives a couple a second opportunity at love. Grace Madison returns home to Briar Creek at Christmastime because her life in New York is in shambles. Except for a brief visit for her father’s funeral, she has absented herself from her home town for five years. The reason for her continued absence: a broken heart caused by her first love, Luke Hastings, who wouldn’t leave Briar Creek for her.
Yet, the first Christmas after her father’s death finds Grace coming home reluctantly, if only to decide what to do next as her writing career and her relationship with her fiancé Derek have both ended badly. It is a snowy night with slippery roads and Grace slides off the road. Her rescuer is, of course, the one person she most wishes to avoid. She reluctantly accepts Luke’s help and as he makes his way toward her family’s home, she notices major changes in the town including her father’s bookstore.
Home has changed, too. Her younger sisters, Anna and Jane, and her mother Kathleen have as well. Christmas spirit is lacking in Kathleen and Anna, and Jane is falsely upbeat even as her marriage is crumbling. Only her niece Sophie seems unaffected by events and is looking forward to the holiday.
Despite the changes, Grace tries to make the best of her return. Having found out that her mother and sisters have closed the bookstore, Grace decides to re-open it. With her sister Anna’s help, they make plans to enlarge it. Grace’s visit even re-energizes her mother’s Christmas spirit.
Although Luke is now a widower, he feels guilty about Helen, his wife. Though she died two years earlier, his grief is still raw so that Grace’s return has upset him. He hasn’t forgotten Grace, and his feelings for her still are strong. For every kiss they share, Luke then backs away from her.
It is an on-again, off-again connection for Grace and Luke. Despite the obvious feelings they have for each other, their various issues constantly put the pair at odds. Can they get past their individual issues with each other and rediscover love?
With realistic situations, this is the first in a series of romances set in this small Vermont town, and this reader is looking forward to reading more by Olivia Miles. In particular, the next one in the series that features Anna and Mark called A Match Made on Main Street.
